Technical information

This web site has been written in compliance with the standards of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We have sought to follow the guidelines of the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative, the goal of which is "to ensure that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web."

We hope that we have taken into account all disabilities that might affect access to our web site, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. Compliance with W3C standards should ensure that the site is readable by any browser (browser bugs notwithstanding) and by text-to-speech processors. We have chosen a dyslexia-friendly colour scheme and layout, but we have used cascading style sheets (CSS) instead of embedded styles, to ensure maximum configurability by the end user. This means, for example, that you can increase the text size or specify a colour scheme to suit your own requirements.

We have disallowed the use of potentially non-portable features such as javascript, frames, flash or other plugins that would restrict the use of this web site to specific browsers or operating systems. We have also excluded server features such as server-side includes (SSI), dynamic html (DHTML) or active server pages, which would similarly restrict the hosting of this site to specific operating systems or web server software. This strategy means that we have used minimal markup for semantic content, which reduces web page size, resulting in faster and more efficient page download and rendering.

The source for our web pages has been validated by W3C. Our compliance with W3C standards is indicated by the W3C icon at the bottom of each page.
